New to Perth, from the creators of Little Kickers – it’s Little Rugby!

Catch, weave, chase, run, but most of all have FUN! Little Rugby runs a national network of fun, safe and non-contact footy classes combining a Union and League approach for boys and girls aged from two years old up to their 7th birthday.

Little Rugby’s imaginative classes are run in a dynamic and fun group environment, teaching concepts such as listening to instructions, sharing and taking turns as well as kicking techniques, passing and scoring promoting learning through play.

Having analysed both Rugby League and Rugby Union with experts from each code, the team at Little Rugby have devised a comprehensive, fun-packed programme that offers a truly enjoyable and involving first introduction to non-contact/tag rugby, which appeals to pre-school boys and girls of all sporting backgrounds and abilities.

By drawing upon the concepts established at Little Kickers, Little Rugby has assembled a thoughtful programme of engaging, fun-based games that not only build upon core rugby-themed competencies such as running, kicking, throwing and catching, but also broader sports-based skills such as balance, teamwork, physical agility, listening to instructions and hand-eye coordination.

Friendly, experienced coaches, safe training environments and a purpose-designed kit (including specially designed posts!) help build a lifelong appreciation of physical exercise and the oval-shaped ball.

Little Rugby offers three classes: Junior (2 to 3½), Mighty (3½ – 5th birthday) and Mega (5-7th birthday). Little Rugby’s tailor-made programme seeks to let every child develop at his or her own pace, by playing alongside other kids of similar ages and abilities. This three-tiered approach (Junior, Mighty and Mega Rugby) provides a gently staggered learning environment that allows every child to quickly find his or her feet.

In Junior rugby, the fledgling rugby players are introduced to the basics of the game and begin to develop skills which are built upon as their ability increases.

Using a rugby ball tailored to their size, elements of tag rugby are introduced, including holding on to the ball with two hands whilst running forwards, landing the ball for a try, and looking up whilst running with the ball.

In addition to this, the children are also learning colours and identifying different body parts that they exercise when playing sport.

By the Mighty Rugby stage, most of the budding rugby players will have basic coordination, which enables the coaches to expand on the skills learnt before. Evasive running, always facing forwards towards the opposition, and receiving a pass whilst on the move are just some of the components of the course at this stage.

With the assistance of real ‘Tag Rugby Belts’ the children also begin to learn the fundamental rules of Tag Rugby whilst exercising and having fun!

Mega Rugby was developed in response to popular demand; many children who attend Little Rugby classes want to continue to build their skills – both physical and social – once they have turned 5. The Mega Rugby philosophy is divided into 3 core areas to enable them to do just this: play, practice and understanding.

With the assistance of real ‘Tag Rugby Belts’ the children explore the match concept and integration of the skills that they have learnt during the session in a safe, non-contact setting.

Mega Rugby combines a series of activities that use imaginative play, familiar games and visual skill to engage the interest of the child and ensure maximum enjoyment for all participants!

Each Little Rugby class comes complete with two coaches to ensure that each week every young rugby disciple receives some all-important one-on-one tuition, which is instrumental in ensuring that even the shyest child soon feels part of the pack.
